How to Do Seated Twisted Eagle (Seated Garudasana)



Not only is seated twisted eagle pose fun to get into, it also has great benefits. I enjoy this pose because it makes me feel like a pretzel, but also because it provides balance and is a great shoulder stretch.


How to Get Into the Pose

Sit in a comfortable position on the ground. Lengthen your tail bone toward the ground, slide your shoulder blades back and down, aligning your head, neck and spine in one line. Lift your right leg and cross it over your left. Take the left arm under and around the right arm and make the left palm touch the right palm. Firmly keeping the palms together, lift the arms so that the elbows are parallel to your shoulders. Gaze towards forearms or close your eyes. Hold for one minute, breathing deeply. Reverse and repeat on the other side.
